Test Name:
Glucose, fasting
Testing Prerequisites:
Patient must fast a minimum of 8 hours

Calgary Zone laboratory staff:  If patient is not fasting (or has not been fasting for 8 hours), order Glucose, random and collect the specimen. Note: This does not apply to Glucose Tolerance, 2 hours test, in which a fasting specimen is required.

 Glucose and Lipid Tests  
Collection Device/Tube Type:
1. EDM Base Lab: 5 mL blood - GOLD SST (gel)
2. CGY DSC: 4.5 mL blood - MINT LIHEP PST (gel)
3. NOTE: The preferred tube type at each testing site is acceptable at the alternate site
Collection Instructions:
•  Record fasting status on the requisition
Submission Requirements:
1 mL serum or lithium heparin plasma

Handling/Storage Comments:
Centrifuge within 30 minutes of collection
