Ordering Information:
Test panel includes:
•  Creatinine (serum)
•  Creatinine, urine
•  Creatinine, urine, 24 hour
•  Creatinine clearance, urine, 24 hour (CRCL)

Patient Instructions:
24-hour urine - Creatinine Clearance
Collection Instructions:
A blood specimen and a 24 hour urine specimen are required for this test panel.
It is preferred that a serum creatinine be collected when the 24 hour urine is dropped off.

Collection Device/Tube Type:
   1. 24 hour urine container - plain
   2. Plus:
    EDM Base Lab:  5 ml blood - GOLD SST (gel)
    CGY DSC: 4.5 mL blood - MINT LIHEP PST (gel)
    Note:  The preferred tube type at each testing sites is acceptable at the alternate site

Note:  Serum creatinine must be collected within:
   •  48 hours before the start of the urine collection, or
   •  48 hours after the completion of the urine collection

Record the following on the requisition:
   •  patient's height (cm) & weight (kg)
   •  urine collection times
   •  total volume of urine collection

Submission Requirements:
5 mL urine and 1 mL serum or lithium heparin plasma
Handling/Storage Comments:
•  Record collection times and total volume

All sites referring to Edmonton Base Lab:
•  Refrigerate upon receipt at the collection site
•  Transport at refrigerated temperatures
•  EDM Base Lab: Store refrigerated until analysis

Sites referring to Calgary DSC:
•  Calgary and area PSCs: Transport in ambient temperatures
•  South Zone PSCs and APL rural sites: Transport at refrigerated temperatures
•  CGY DSC: Store refrigerated if delay in analysis

Creatinine clearance 78.00 - 138.00 mL/min/1.73 m2

Comments:
•  Results are not valid in patients with rapidly changing renal function
•  Estimation of glomerular filtration by creatinine clearance is no more accurate
   than using the abbreviated CKD-EPI equation (without 24 hour urine collection)
