Comments:
Note:  H. pylori stool antigen test requires a separate, sterile collection container and requisition

This test cannot be combined with other stool testing

Handling and Storage:
*Refrigerate
Handling/Storage Comments:
  • Specimens MUST be refrigerated or, kept on an ice pack until delivered to the laboratory 
  • Transport the specimen and requisition to the testing laboratory (APL Calgary Diagnostic & Scientific Centre [DSC] Microbiology) as soon as possible
    • The specimen must be received at the DSC Microbiology department within 12 hours of collection
  • South zone locations
    • If the sample can be transported to the DSC Microbiology department within 48 hours, then refrigerate as soon as possible and send specimen with an ice pack, via regular courier
    • If the sample cannot be transported within 48 hours, then the sample must be frozen (-20ºC)
      • DO NOT ship the sample until it is completely frozen.  Avoid freeze-thaw cycles

Rejection Criteria:
  • Leaking sample containers
  • Extremely hard stool specimens
