•  indication for testing
•  information from previous VRE results

Stool:
  •  Sterile container

Rectal Swab Collection Instructions
  1. Pre-moisten the swab with transport mecia
  2. Pass the tip of the swab approximately 2 cm beyond the anal sphincter
  3. Carefully rotate the swab to sample anal crypts.  Fecal matter should be visible on the swab
  4. Carefully replace the swab in the collection device, without contaminating it

Transport to the testing laboratory as soon as possible after collection
Rejection Criteria:
  • Mislabelled or unlabelled specimen or requisition
  • No evidence of fecal material on the swab (rectal swabs)
  • More than 1 screen per week
