Collection Device / Container Type:
Sterile fluid container
Submission Requirements:
Fresh fluid (no fixative)
Comments:
•  Do not send drainage apparatus, needles or syringes to the laboratory
•  Containers must be securely tightened to avoid leakage.
•  Place collected specimen in a sealed biohazard bag. Place requisition in outside pouch.

Note:
•  If tests other than cytopathology are required, a requisition for each department must be completed and accompany the specimen
• If Microbiology testing is required, specimen must be sent there first

Stability and Storage:
•  Room temperature up to 4 hours
•  Refrigerate after 4 hours
