Platelet count for in vitro clumping (Calgary/South)
Synonyms:
Clumped platelet panel
Testing Prerequisites:
Patient must have presented with clumped platelets previously
Collection Device/Tube Type:
4 mL blood - LAVENDER EDTA and 2.7 mL blood - LT BLUE CITRATE
Collection Instructions:
• Immediate mix tube 8 - 10 times by gentle inversion • Make slides from both tubes of blood • Write on slide label EDTA or Citrate • Keep tubes together (with the CBC or CBCD tube) using an elastic band
Submission Requirements:
• 1 mL whole blood • Citrate tube must be full

Comments:
A routine platelet count is done to confirm a previous clumping platelet result. A clumped platelet count will then be performed on the citrate tube.
