Clinical Prerequisite(s):
Provision of relevant clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result.  Always provide:
• Clinical history (symptoms, signs, duration)
• Antimicrobial history
• Does the patient use contact lenses?
• Is the patient immunocompromised:
     - chronic infection?
     - on steroid/other immunosupressive therapy?
     - post-transplant?
     - hematological/other maligancy?

Comments:
Submit specimen in 10 mL of Pages Amoeba Saline in a sterile container
Handling and Storage:
DO NOT refrigerate
Store at room temperature
Handling/Storage Comments:
Transport STAT
Specimen MUST be received at the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC) within 2 hours of collection

NOTE:  Anyone handling these specimens should wear gloves and wash their hands thoroughly after removing them

Rejection Criteria:
DO NOT reject the specimen(s).  Contact the Microbiologist-on-call if there are specimen deficiencies
