Provision of relevant, clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result
Always provide/record:

•  antibiotic therapy
•  clinical history - symptoms, signs, and their duration
•  travel history
•  Is there any underlying respiratory disease?  Examples:  bronchiectasis, cystic
   fibrosis, COPD, asthma, malignancy
•  Is the patient immunocompromised?  Examples:  chronic infections, steroid and
   other immunosuppressive therapy, post-transplant, hematological or other
   malignancy?
•  Has the patient recently had COVID-19, influenza, or any other viral respiratory
   tract infection?

Specimen Requirement(s):
Minimum volume:  1 mL
Handling/Storage Comments:
Transport to the laboratory as soon as possible
Rejection Criteria:
Specimens other than BAL not approved by the MOC
