Physician Information:
•  Initiating a gluten-free diet prior to referral or prior to screening will interfere with the diagnostic test for celiac diseases.
•  Please note that individuals may exhibit a wide range of responses to gluten challenge over varying periods of time. Some patients only require a diet containing gluten (minimum 3 g/day gluten or approximately 1-2 slices of bread/day) for at least 2 weeks to exhibit histological changes and at least 4 weeks for tTG IgA levels to increase. Others may require a challenge for as long as two years prior to development of intestinal injury or antibody response. Celiac disease serology during the challenge should be repeated every 4-6 months or immediately with the development of symptoms.
