Provision of relevant, clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result Always provide/record: • clinical history - symptoms, signs, and their duration • reason for removal of prosthetic joint/testing • duration of time the prosthesis has been in-situ
Collection Device/Tube Type:
Sterile plastic container with secure lid
Collection Instructions:
Remove orthopedic hardware aseptically, in the operating room
Place the extracted hardware in the sterile, plastic, container
Avoid further contamination with any other surfaces or materials
If the hardware is too large to fit in the container, dissassemble into smaller parts before placing in the container
Avoid contamination. Failure to do so, may result in specimen rejection
Handling and Storage:
DO NOT refrigerate Store at room temperature
Handling/Storage Comments:
Submit to laboratory as soon as possible
Rejection Criteria:
Swab of explanted hardware is not suitable for culture
