submission of swabs for culture is suboptimal. Swabs should only be submitted when
an extremely low quantity of fluid can be collected
· Collect
prior to antimicrobial therapy for greatest diagnostic sensitivity
Collection Instructions:
Perform
aspiration aseptically
1.
Expel
any air bubbles from the syringe
2.
Immediately,
place specimen in a sterile container
3.
If
swab is collected, submit in clear transport media or use an E-swab
collection device
