Clinical Prerequisite(s):
Provision of relevant clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result

  • Only for patient <2 years old if stool sample cannot be collected
  • State specimen source
  • Provide clinical history.  State symptoms and start date
  • Provide reason for submitting rectal swab

  • Note:
     - Rectal swabs are INFERIOR to stool specimen for recovery of enteric pathogens.
     - Specimen will be processed upon request if there is a good indication

    Collection Device/Tube Type:
    eSwab collection device
    Swab in clear transport media
    Collection Instructions:

    1.

    Pass the tip of a sterile swab approximately 2 cm beyond anal sphincter

    2.

    Carefully rotate the swab to sample the anal crypts and withdraw the swab

    3.

    Carefully place swab back into the collection device without contaminating it
