Clinical Prerequisite(s):
Provision of relevant, clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result
Always provide/report:
•  specimen source - specify:
    - middle/deep ear fluid
    - left or right side
• 
current antibiotic therapy and start date
•  clinical history - symptoms, signs, and their duration

Tympanocentesis fluid is submitted primarily to diagnose middle ear infections.  This should only be collected by a trained healthcare provider

Note:
 - Deep ear specimens are cultured both aerobically and anaerobically
