Clinical Prerequisite(s):
Provision of relevant clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result

  • State specimen source - indicate left or right side
  • State recent/current antibiotic therapy and start date
  • Provide clinical history.  State symptoms and signs, and their duration
  • If filamentous fungi/mould culture required, indicate clearly on requisition
  • Collection Device/Tube Type:
    eSwab collection device
    Swab in clear transport media
    Collection Instructions:

    1.

    Use a swab moistened with sterile saline to remove any superficial debris

    2.

    Gently roll and rotate swab over the surface of the affected area allowing fluid/discharge to collect on swab

    3.

    Carefully place swab in the collection device without contaminating it

  • Mislabelled or unlabelled specimen/requisition
  • No swab in collection device
