Test Name:
Platelet count for in vitro clumping (Edmonton/Central/North)
Synonyms:
Clumped platelet panel
Testing Prerequisites:
Patient must have presented with clumped platelets previously

Collection Device/Tube Type:
4 mL mauve top tube (EDTA) and 2.7 mL blue top tube (citrate)
Collection Instructions:
•  Mix tubes immediately, 8-10 times, by gentle inversion
•  Make slide from both tubes of blood 
•  Write on label EDTA or Citrate
•  Keep tubes together (with the CBC or CBCD tube) using an elastic band

Submission Requirements:
1 mL EDTA
Citrate tube must be full

Comments:
A routine platelet count is done to confirm a previous clumping platelet result. A clumped platelet count will then be performed on the citrate tube
