Provision of relevant, clinical information is important to ensure a clinically relevant result
Always provide/record:
•  specimen source - specify:
   - Vitreous fluid
   - 
OS or OD
• 
current antibiotic therapy and start date
•  clinical history - symptoms, signs, and their duration
•  If filamentous fungi/mold culture is required it must be recorded on the requisition

Collection Device/Tube Type:
10 mL sterile tube
Collection Instructions:
•  Fluid must be taken by an ophthalmologist or a trained physician
•  Collect the sample aseptically

Handling and Storage:
Room temperature
Handling/Storage Comments:
Intra-ocular & Vitreous fluid must be transported to the laboratory for processing with 2 hours of collection
Rejection Criteria:
  • Mislabelled or unlabeled specimen/requisitiion
  • No swab in collection device
  • Non-sterile container
